Development of a dynamic optimization framework for waste management systems

Waste to energy (WTE) technologies have emerged as an alternative solution municipal solid waste management. WTE systems provide major environmental and economic benefits by converting into accessible energy, part of integrated management (ISWM) strategy. However, previous studies showed that establishing ISWM strategy based on a single type does not necessarily realize maximum benefits. Hence, optimizing the selection hybrid can potentially achieve minimize negative impacts. such task is challenging due various alternatives objectives, particularly those related material recovery systems. This article presents methods used develop systematic optimization framework identifies most beneficial set through mathematical modelling. The include procedures established framework, including base model computations, well comprehensive modelling methods. recovery, carbon footprint, financial profitability are computed for selected facilities. multi-objective programming solved using weighted criterion method (WCCM). implemented in CPLEX software language (OPL).
